The Journey - Season One
Each country offers its own set of trials, characters, and revelations—adding to the season’s overarching narrative of discovery, camaraderie, and transformation.
EPISODE 1: Panama
Mike and Ale, two friends determined to travel through five Latin American countries, depart from Lima with their film crew on a journey of discovery into various environmental and social problems affecting different cities across the continent. Panama opens the journey with a focus on marine conservation and endangered Caribbean species, where they discover local initiatives seeking to protect turtles and fragile ecosystems. From this environmental starting point, they explore Panama City and its global economic role, visiting free trade zones, skyscrapers, and historic downtown routes. They then travel to Bocas del Toro, where they dive among reefs, experience Afro-Caribbean culture, and organize a fundraising party for marine conservation. Finally, they set sail for Cartagena with a stop in the San Blas Islands, amid conversations about migration, culture, and Caribbean nights that will set the tone for the trip.
EPISODE 2: Cartagena
After five days sailing the Caribbean, Mike and Ale arrive in Cartagena, Colombia. This city suffers from the problems of human trafficking and its impact on vulnerable communities in the Colombian Caribbean. They also learn about local initiatives that seek to protect coastal ecosystems, threatened by pollution and mass tourism. Then they explore Cartagena’s historical legacy as a gateway to the continent and its role in past Caribbean conflicts. They practice water sports, explore its vibrant gastronomy and festivals, and delve into the culture of Caribbean voodoo. With these new insights, they decide to rent vehicles and begin their journey to their next destination.
EPISODE 3: Medellín
Ale and Mike travel through diverse Colombian landscapes, each driving their own car in a Top Gear-style homage. They arrive in Medellín. They discover the social and environmental impact of drug trafficking and how the city has worked on urban recovery processes. They talk with survivors of the Medellín Cartel and reconstruct the events that defined the darkest period in Colombian history. At the same time, they discover modern Medellín: a city that today promotes sustainable mobility projects and green spaces. Its modernity, its vibrant nightlife, and its new cultural identity after having been considered the most dangerous city in the world.
EPISODE 4: Ecuador
Ale and Mike arrive in Quito without knowing exactly what to expect, and are surprised to discover a city full of activities, stunning landscapes, and modernity. But they also discover the environmental problems that threaten the country: the effects of climate change in the highlands and the fragility of the unique ecosystems of the Galápagos. They travel to the Cotopaxi region and decide to climb the highest mountain near the equator. After their feat, they set sail from Guayaquil on a maritime adventure to the Galápagos Islands, the capital of Ecuadorian biodiversity. There they explore the islands, interact with diverse species, and closely examine the risks that threaten the archipelago
EPISODE 5: Peruvian Coast (Mancora, Lima, Ica)
Ale and Mike enter Peru from the north and arrive in Mancora, where they explore surf culture and northern cuisine. Along the way, they reflect on coastal erosion and the importance of protecting the Pacific’s marine ecosystems. They then travel to Lima, where they explore the viceregal past, modern life, and renowned gastronomy of the capital. Back home, they organize a massive fundraising party to benefit vulnerable communities in the city. Their route ends in the Ica desert, where they practice extreme sports, learn about pisco production, and fly over the mysterious Nazca Lines, while learning about how responsible tourism can help preserve these unique landscapes.
EPISODE 6: Cusco
Ale and Mike arrive in the capital of the ancient Inca Empire. They explore the ruins of Tahuantinsuyo and discover how the conquest transformed the city’s history and spirit. They spend a couple of days in Cusco immersing themselves in its living culture, speaking with local authorities, and listening to the testimonies of victims of human trafficking and other problems that plague the region today. Among temples, colonial streets, and vibrant Andean cuisine, they uncover the complexity of a destination that holds both beauty and open wounds.
Then they travel through the Sacred Valley to board the train to Machu Picchu. The journey, winding through mountains and clouds, culminates at the entrance to the Historic Sanctuary, where the sheer scale of the citadel reveals the ingenuity of an extraordinary civilization. Afterward, they venture into the cloud forest on their way to Manu National Park, the gateway to the Peruvian Amazon. There, they visit areas affected by illegal mining and venture into a camp to observe the daily lives of those operating clandestinely.
Later, within Manu National Park and the Cloud Forest, they speak with biologists, conservationists, and environmental experts who show them the challenges faced by the fauna, flora, and indigenous communities due to human trafficking, the depletion of species, and the constant pressure on one of the most valuable ecosystems on the planet. Through testimonies and encounters, Ale and Mike discover a silent struggle that defines the future of the entire region.
EPISODE 7: Iquitos and the Brazilian Amazon
Ale and Mike arrive in Iquitos, a city surrounded by rivers deep in the Amazon. They learn about the history of the rubber boom and confront environmental problems such as deforestation, wildlife trafficking, and the vulnerability of indigenous communities. They visit wildlife conservation areas and organizations that support remote communities.
From there, they travel up the Amazon River to the tri-border area between Peru, Colombia, and Brazil. The journey takes them to Manaus, the largest city in the Amazon, where they get their first taste of Brazilian culture.
EPISODE 8: Rio de Janeiro
The final chapter takes place at one of the world’s most joyous festivals: Rio’s Carnival. Ale and Mike immerse themselves in the samba, the parades, and the music; but at the same time, they discover the other side of mass tourism: beach pollution and urban inequality. They learn about the culture of the favelas, where community art drives social and ecological projects to address the environmental impact of urban growth.
Among iconic beaches, lush landscapes, and vibrant cuisine, the kids also discover local initiatives protecting the Atlantic Forest, one of the continent’s most threatened forests. Rio marks the end of the journey with an explosion of color, rhythm, and awareness.

Alejandro B. Torres-Calderón
Journalist. Communicator. Lifelong explorer.
Alejandro is the intellectual engine of Hell of a Ride—a storyteller with deep roots across Latin America and an unshakable curiosity for how the world works. With expertise spanning geopolitics, history, anthropology, and regional culture, he brings a rare ability to translate complex realities into captivating, human-centered narratives.
Whether he’s navigating remote communities, decoding centuries of cultural evolution, or challenging his co-hosts to see beyond the surface, Alejandro grounds the chaos of the road with insight, context, and reflection. His presence elevates every destination from a backdrop into a living story—one shaped by identity, struggle, resilience, and the beauty of everyday life.
Equal parts philosopher and adventurer, Alejandro is the voice that helps viewers understand not just where the journey goes, but why it matters.
Michael R. Fidel
Michael is the heart, spark, and comedic wildfire of the series—an Ohio-born adventurer driven by an instinct for connection and a radar for unforgettable experiences. With a deep love for food, nightlife, local energy, and the unscripted moments that unfold between strangers, he brings raw charisma and unpredictable momentum everywhere he goes.
If there’s a shortcut, a side quest, a questionable idea, or a chance to party with the locals, Michael will find it—and drag the crew with him. His curiosity often leads to profound encounters… or total disaster. Usually both. And that’s the magic.
Michael’s ability to break barriers, make friends instantly, and turn misadventures into gold makes him the perfect counterweight to Alejandro’s analytical mind. Together, they create a dynamic that is chaotic, heartfelt, and impossible to script.
He isn’t just along for the ride—he’s the reason it becomes a story worth telling.
